A Closer Look at the Unidata SQ-3000 WiFi VoIP Video Phone

Yes that’s right.
Unidata, the makers of the popular SIP WiFI phone WPU-7700 have introduced their latest SIP based WiFI phone, but with a big twist…..it supports video!!! May I introduce to you the Unidata SQ-3000…
Recently, I had the pleasure of BETA testing a few SQ-3000’s provided by Unidata and wow, was I impressed. Here are a couple of the highlights of which I have personally never seen on a SIP based WiFI phone:
- Video support through H.263/H.264 codec
- Touch Screen
- Can double as a TV remote control
- Contact and Address book to call or text messages from
- Speakerphone which supports “HD” voice
- SD card support
While this is just a short list, a full list of features that the SQ-3000 will support can be noted here.
I say this only because the product is still in it’s BETA testing stage and not all of the features and functionality are working 100% just yet. September 1st is the projected production release for this product.
That being said, let’s move on to the testing procedures. Both SQ-3000’s were tested on a Switchvox SMB 4.0 platform since Switchvox has built-in support for video calling via H.263/H.264 codecs. Also Switchvox supports the Wideband Audio codec G.722, otherwise known as HD Voice which the SQ-3000 also supports.
Setting up the Unidata SQ-3000 to register with Switchvox was very simple, and all done through the touch screen menu display on the phone:
The next step is to perform a site scan of available wireless networks, select the desired AP, create a profile, and connect:
After the device connects and registers, you will be ready for SIP video calling. Check out some of the screenshots of conversations I have had so far.
