Great when you get it working
It took some time for us to get these phones programmed properly and working consistently on our Asterisk system. Once we got the tftp server running though, with centralized configuration management it really shows the power of the system. We don't use any scripts on the phones, which makes them more expensive for what we use them for, but it ends up working pretty well. The 6731i is a good basic phone, but things like directories are harder to use.
The 57i phone is great for the receptionist. For small systems there are plenty of BLF buttons. For a little larger system add some BLF modules. We use the Aastra Link Pro 160 central equipment. It makes programming very easy, even with SIP trunking and DID.
The mangling of SIP communications protocols by either your gateway/firewall or internet provider has absolutely nothing to do with the quality, features, or reliability of the VoIP handset. That's like giving the garbage collector a one star review because you are angry with the ice-cream truck driver. Deal with the real issues, and stop blaming innocent bystanders.
I have a few of these, have used them for years in many different office environments, and have no complaints. I've dealt with Firewall / SIP issues too, but recognize clearly that they are unrelated to the chosen handset.
Not content with system & provider
We have moved recently, Aastra phone is indeed plug and play (Aastra 6757i) but then we had to cancel our internet provider and subscribe to a new one. Internet continues to work, phone system has not worked for over a month... Sales Staff have frustrated our IT people with incomplete answers regarding setting, firewall work arounds and how to edit important fundamental elements so that we can use our phones. We are almost at the point of throwing this system in the garbabe.
As far as I'm concerned, the Aastra 6757i phone is the industry standard.
Phone has worked fantastic for me. I've had for about 2 years. switching my Profider, but only if I can keep my phones. Dependable, great sound, 2 lines...1 walk around. Large display, ez but lots of functions. for my small business i've been very happy and would purchase again.
What is not to love, easy setup and very reliable, owned one for almost a year now, not even one glitch!
Great phone, excellent features, great value.
The Aastra 57i is the phone we recommend over other phones. If you need a to program a feature a specific way, Aastras are the best to accomplish it and the 57i is an attractive well designed large LED phone. Excellent all around
One of the best IP phones sold today.
We use a few different manufacturers of IP phones for our Asterisk IP-PBX, and a few models of each. Our favorite is the Aastra, and specifically the 57i. The standard features on the 57i, along with the ability to customize button mappings and create new feature sets, are the best. Support on the phone is excellent, as well. The quality of the LCD, and its size and brightness is very good. Customers like the Aastra and my experience has been that once they use this phone they stay with it and when they have had mixed phone types end up prefering the 57i.
Aastra 57i Great Phone but needs better support
We purchase three 51i, four 57i and one 57iCT phones for our small business. Phones are connected to a Sangoma 600 FXS/FXO card in a Phoneboch 1U server.
Love the phones, but found them to be difficult to program and the scripts provided through Trixbox do not work as well as I feel they should. We want to use the day/night feature of the phone. Installed the script but it did not work without some extensive investigation into setup tweaking. Finally got it to work but it worked on only 4 of 5 phones. Then 2 days later day/night did not work again. We have decided to achieve the same goal using Trxibox program rather than spend our time dealing with Aastra scripts.
Aastra does not support the scripts and without the scripts the phone does not do all that they claim it does.
A big problem is figuring out what is controlled by Trixbox and what is controlled by the phones.
By the way, called Aastra support to figure out some issues with the phones. Save yourself the trouble, the advice we got was wrong and the gal on the phone did not seem to know what she was doing. Little to no help. We solve the problems on our own. Thankyou for nothing Aastra!
