Founded in 1961, Platronics' mission was to develop and manufacture specialized aircraft electronics for NASA. Plantronics introduced the first lightweight headset in 1962 for a manned mission to Mercury and is the worldwide leader in design and manufacture of wireless lightweight headsets today.

Plantronics headsets have been seen in many high profile events and films, including the "one small step for man" transmission from the moon in 1969.

Plantronics home base is in Santa Cruz, CA but has offices in 20 countries around the world. They are a publicly held company (NYSE:PLT) and are sold through authorized Plantronics Partners and retail.
