you need a smart system to control this so you don&#8217;t consume too much of your time, bandwidth and storage space.<\/p>\n<p>Depending on the size of your <a title=\"ip surveillance systems\" href=\"http:\/\/www.ipcamerasupply.com\/ip-surveillance-systems\" target=\"_blank\">IP surveillance system <\/a>there a couple systems to choose from.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<h2>Video Management Systems<\/h2>\n<p>There are two main types of video management hardware platforms:\u00a0<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>NVR (Network Video Recorder):\u00a0A hardware box with pre-installed video management functionalities.<\/li>\n<li>PC Server:\u00a0A video management solution that has open source <a title=\"ip camera software\" href=\"http:\/\/www.ipcamerasupply.com\/ip-camera-software\" target=\"_blank\">video management software\u00a0<\/a>installed on a standard PC server.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2>NVR vs. PC Server<\/h2>\n<p>-NVR<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Dedicated solely to specific tasks of recording, analyzing, and playing IP video<\/li>\n<li>NVR&#8217;s do not allow for additional applications to be installed on them<\/li>\n<li>NVR&#8217;s use proprietary software and are specifically designed for video management.<\/li>\n<li>Less scalable but, NVR&#8217;s are\u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">good for\u00a0small systems<\/span> where the number of cameras do not exceed the NVR&#8217;s capacity<\/li>\n<li>Easier to install than a PC server platform<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>-PC Server<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Uses commercial off the shelf hardware components<\/li>\n<li>Systems designed on pc servers are fully scalable<\/li>\n<li>Capable of using standard hardware for increased or external storage<\/li>\n<li>Can run addtional software such as firewalls and anti-virus<\/li>\n<li>Camera licenses can be added on at a time<\/li>\n<li>Hardware can be expanded \/ upgraded to satisfy increasing performance requirements<\/li>\n<li>Good for a large number of cameras and when an IT department has it&#8217;s own set system specifications<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Hardware Platforms<\/h2>\n<p>The size of your surveillance system and whether or not you&#8217;ll need to add on to it in the future will determine which hardware platform is best for you.\u00a0 NVR platforms are self-contained, stand alone units that are simple to install but have some usability and expandability limitations.<\/p>\n<p>PC servers on the\u00a0other hand are a bit more difficult to set up and are best left to your IT department if you have one.\u00a0 But they offer unlimited customization and scalability.<\/p>\n<h2>Software Platforms<\/h2>\n<p>There is more to video management than just the hardware.\u00a0 Next up I&#8217;ll talk about the software platform choices you have to manage your IP surveillance video.<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"twitter-share-button\" href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/share\">Tweet<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>What is video management?\u00a0 Once you&#8217;ve got your IP cameras up and running video management is an important tool\u00a0to properly manage, record, store, and view video.\u00a0 Not much happens in the majority of recorded video &#8211;
