Hardware Platform<\/a><\/strong>:\u00a0\u00a0Which do you prefer, a Network Video Recorder <\/a>(NVR) or an open PC server platform?<\/p>\n

Scalability<\/strong>:\u00a0 Know your surveillance\u00a0system and it’s purpose.\u00a0 Some IP video managment systems will be easy to install and use but have limited scalability.\u00a0 Others may scale up to thousands of cameras but are complex to use in a small system.<\/p>\n

Functionality<\/strong>:\u00a0 Again, understand what you’re trying to accomplish with your surveillance system.\u00a0 Will you be happy with a basic system that allows for simple recording and viewing of a few cameras or, do you need something more advanced with event handling and mapping functionalities?<\/p>\n

Web Based\u00a0or Windows<\/strong>:\u00a0 Ease of use should be top priority especially if you’re going to have many users \/ operators.\u00a0 Therefore, consider if your system’s interface should be a\u00a0web-based or Windows-based application?<\/p>\n

Open Platform or Vendor Specific<\/strong>:\u00a0 Most IP camera and video server <\/a>manufacturers supply their own video management systems but oftentimes they are vendor specific and work only with that brand’s products.\u00a0 Open systems from 3rd party vendors\u00a0work with many brands allowing for greater flexibility for your surveillance system.<\/p>\n
