{"id":21692,"date":"2010-09-01T13:38:19","date_gmt":"2010-09-01T17:38:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.voipsupply.com\/?p=21692"},"modified":"2016-07-26T13:53:11","modified_gmt":"2016-07-26T17:53:11","slug":"polycom-vvx1500","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.voipsupply.com\/blog\/voip-insider\/polycom-vvx1500\/","title":{"rendered":"Polycom VVX1500 Overview"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a class=\"post-thumbnail\" href=\"\/polycom-vvx1500-media-phone\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/media.marketwire.com\/attachments\/200903\/TN-517232_Polycom_VVX_1500FrontView.jpg\" alt=\"\" align=\"right\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nIn my last two posts I discussed the features and highlights of the Polycom video conferencing units <a title=\"hdx 4000\" href=\"\/blog\/voip-insider\/polycom-hdx-4000\/\">HDX 4000<\/a> and <a title=\"hdx 6004\" href=\"\/blog\/voip-insider\/\">HDX 6004<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Now it\u2019s time to take a look at the <a href=\"\/polycom-vvx1500-media-phone\">Polycom video phone, VVX1500<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2>Polycom VVX1500 Multimedia Phone<\/h2>\n<p>While this offering from Polycom can accurately be called a video phone, as it is a phone that has video capabilities, Polycom calls it a \u201cBusiness Media Phone.\u201d\u00a0 Call it what you will, it measures up to Polycom\u2019s usual high standards of excellence while combining audio and video in one desktop unit.<\/p>\n<p>The VVX1500 is a SIP video phone with great audio and video quality that uses relatively low bandwidth and is becoming very popular in the small business space. \u00a0\u00a0It has a high resolution 7 inch wide-screen color TFT touch screen LCD display that makes set up and use a breeze.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>A small video camera is mounted in the top of the LCD display, and can be adjusted vertically without having to adjust the position of the LCD display.\u00a0 The phone also comes equipped with an excellent XML micro-browser, a superb speakerphone (<a href=\"\/manufacturer\/polycom\/phones\">as all Polycom phones do<\/a>), and allows for easy and reliable video calling over IP.<\/p>\n<p>The Polycom VVX1500 comes with numerous multimedia features.<\/p>\n<p>It can act merely as a standard IP phone, similar to the Polycom SoundPoint lineup, and even has the same firmware as the lesser Polycom phones.\u00a0 However, it is also very much more.<\/p>\n<p>One interesting feature is that the VVX1500 has a \u201cpicture frame\u201d mode, where the <a href=\"\/polycom-vvx1500-media-phone\">display turns into a digital photo frame while the phone is idle<\/a>.\u00a0 It also provides an <a href=\"\/polycom-vvx1500-media-phone\">enhanced display for the built-in XML micro-browser<\/a>, and comes bundled with several applications including the Polycom Productivity Suite, which enables users to initiate and control audio conference calls right from the touch screen and also record audio calls locally using a flash drive in the phone\u2019s USB port.<\/p>\n<p>The <strong>Polycom VVX1500<\/strong> has all the normal external connections, and the handset and headset connections are via RJ-9 connectors.\u00a0 The phone has <a href=\"\/polycom-vvx1500-media-phone\">dual Gigabit Ethernet connections<\/a>, so it can act like a 2 port switch and only requires one network drop at each workstation to provide network connection to both the phone and PC.\u00a0 It can be powered by a 48VDC power supply and also is PoE compatible, supporting 802.3af standard power-over-ethernet.<\/p>\n<p>The phone also has an adjustable stand, which the SoundPoint series does not, and has buttons that are larger than the SoundPoint series as well.\u00a0 The major function keys on the phone are internally backlit by blue LEDs when the related function is active.<\/p>\n<h2>Other Polycom VVX1500 Technical Specifications<\/h2>\n<p>Now let\u2019s look at a few of the phone specs:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>CALL HANDING FEATURES: <\/strong> 6 SIP registrations; \u00a0shared call\/bridged line appearance; \u00a0BLF; \u00a0call timer and call waiting;\u00a0 call transfer, hold and forward; \u00a0local three-way audio conferencing;\u00a0 one-touch speed dial\/redial; \u00a0Do not disturb function; \u00a0Electronic Hook Switch capable.<\/li>\n<li><strong>VIDEO STANDARDS AND PROTOCOLS:<\/strong> H.261, H.263, H.263+, H.264, CIF or SIF resolution transmit and receive video up to 30 fps.<\/li>\n<li><strong>CAMERA:<\/strong> 2 mega pixel camera; 30 cm to infinity fixed focus;\u00a0 privacy shutter; \u00a0picture in picture for near end camera; \u00a0full screen or window for far end camera.<\/li>\n<li><strong>POLYCOM VVX1500 COMES WITH:<\/strong> VVX1500 console, handset with handset cord, Network (LAN) cable, Quick start guide, Product registration card.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In my last two posts I discussed the features and highlights of the Polycom video conferencing units HDX 4000 and HDX 6004.
