While VoIP Supply will\u00a0undoubtedly sing the praises of switching to a Voice over IP telephony system we do realize that there can be hurdles\u00a0when you’re trying to get the best call quality and the most reliable service.<\/p>\n

In fact,\u00a0a recurring theme that\u00a0you’ll notice in our “how to” articles under our article categories like VoIP Education<\/a>, VoIP Gateways<\/a>, or VoIP systems<\/a> is:\u00a0 Be Realistic<\/em>.<\/p>\n

There’s considerably more upside to\u00a0VoIP\u00a0than just\u00a0cost savings\u00a0but at the same time we\u00a0understand that the technology can be a little temperamental and as noted previously, VoIP technology will be the fastest growing\u00a0U.S. industry in the next five years<\/a> meaning we’ve yet to see what it can accomplish and how well it can perform.<\/p>\n

Making the Switch From VoIP<\/h2>\n

Understanding\u00a0that VoIP is great but not perfect, economical\u00a0yet deserving\u00a0of the time spent doing your\u00a0homework first;\u00a0it was interesting then to read the article “Why I’m ditching VoIP for the PSTN<\/a>” which got me thinking:<\/p>\n

“For all the good that VoIP has done for society, could there possibly be others out there switching back to traditional phone service?”<\/em><\/p>\n

I set out to answer that question.<\/p>\n

But first, what ungodly reasons were given to ditch the almighty VoIP?<\/p>\n

Bucking the Trend<\/h2>\n

Reading that account on Delimter <\/a>of Renai LeMay’s\u00a0VoIP experience\u00a0reminded me of a\u00a0different sort of trend that a few coworkers and I happen to be a part of – The Reverse Commute<\/a>.\u00a0\u00a0The practice\u00a0of city living with a\u00a0daily commute to the suburbs for work.<\/p>\n

While I didn’t understand resisting a cost-saving technology that can increase operational efficiency and flexibility I had to admit, I have\u00a0good reasons for going against the grain too.<\/p>\n

But housing\/lifestyle choices\u00a0can be explained in any number of ways.\u00a0 Can LeMay’s anti-VoIP decision defend itself just as easily?<\/p>\n

The Honeymoon Didn’t Last<\/h2>\n

For LeMay, his personal leap into VoIP started off\u00a0in just the manner that we would expect.\u00a0 He felt “free” and unburdened by high monthly charges, analog signals, and “finicky” copper wire.\u00a0\u00a0And when he set up his own business he\u00a0confidently looked\u00a0to VoIP again.\u00a0 However, in his experience, as time went on unacceptable problems arose:<\/p>\n
