How to Stay Compliant with STIR/ SHAKEN Standards

Is your communication system compliant with STIR/SHAKEN standards? Every year, around 60% of claims handled by the FCC relate to illegal robocalls and spoofing. The massive amount of fraudulent robocalls can harm service provider’s reputation and create a lack of trust in communications.

What is STIR/SHAKEN?

STIR (Secure Telephony Identity Revisited) and SHAKEN (Secure Handling of Asserted Information Using Tokens) are new technology standards created by FCC (Federal Communications Commission) to ensure that calling numbers are not spoofed, reducing fraudulent activity.

Check out this video to learn more about STIR/SHAKEN standards:

How to Be Compliant with TRACED Act and STIR/SHAKEN

The STIR/SHAKEN standards use digital certificates from the service carriers to assure call recipients that a caller ID has been altered. The TRACED Act, the first federal law established to curb robocalls, was passed in December 2019.

Therefore now all service providers are required to implement STIR/SHAKEN call authentication and robocall mitigation measures by June 2021.

  • Can you suggest a stir/shaken compliant VOIP adapter?
My 10+ Year Old SPA-1001 from linksys is not passing the information to my PBX [home AT&T 7-handset phone answering and smart-call-blocking system].
    Thanks, Jim

    • Hi Jim,

Thanks for reaching out to us! As of right now the Stir/Shaken compliance comes through the service provider you are working with. So you would need to check with the provider you are using to see if they are compliant yet.

Let us know if you have any other questions!

      Mary
