I don’t know about you, but sometime I sit and think about all of the electronic devices that I own, and then I wonder how much more they can actually do other than what I use them for.

I know that there are a lot of people out there like me. People that use their devices for their basic features and never really bother maximizing their potential. And then there are people who learn the technology inside and out, utilizing every single feature that is offered.

When I use the term “electronic device”, of course I mean your tablet, your cell phone, your laptop, and even (spoiler alert) your VoIP deskphone! Based on experience, I know that there are a lot of features that your deskphone can do that will probably never get used. Even at the entry level, a lot of VoIP phones today are packed with what can seem like an endless amount of cool options, but that does not mean everyone is dying to try them.

Sometimes, however, there can be features on your phone that can really make your life easier, but may never be uncovered. There is a long list of examples, everything from Do Not Disturb mode, to changing the annoying factory preset ringtone!

For this blog, I did some research and found something that could easily go unnoticed. Something that can easily be turned on and could help people who work in low light situations, or who might not have the best vision.

This feature is setting your phone so that your keypad will light up when in use! And the phone that owns this feature is none other than the Yealink W52P DECT phone!

Activating The Keypad Light On The Yealink W52P DECT Phone

w52pSetting this up is quite simple! If you find yourself in the dark, or not being able to see your phone’s keypad well, just follow these simple steps to light up your phone!

  1. Press the OK button to enter the main menu
  2. Select the Settings icon
  3. In the settings menu, select Display followed by Keypad Light
  4. Press the Change softkey to check or uncheck the Keypad Light checkbox

And that’s it! Now the next time you need to take your wireless DECT phone into some dark areas, you will have a beacon of light to help you navigate your phone! And maybe…even help you navigate where you’re walking…if it’s really, really dark.

Do you use a DECT phone at work? Is it the Yealink W52P DECT phone? If not, what DECT phone are you using? And does the keypad light up? We want to know!

If you have a desk at work then chances are you have a phone on your desk. The kind of phone that is on your desk probably has a lot to do with what your job position and duties.

If you are working in a call center, then odds are you have an entry level phone that is equipped with just enough to get the job done. If you hold an inside sales position then you might have more of a mid-range phone. Perhaps something with programmable BLF keys or HD voice etc.

When you start to get into a job position that has an executive role, then you might have a use for a more high-end phone. A phone that is packed with features that can help you navigate through your day-to-day activities better, oh and a color touch screen too….obviously.

What would be a good example of a phone like this? Ahh, how about the Yealink T48G? When it comes to Yealink’s T4 Series, the T48G is the top of the line. It also has a 7” color touchscreen display, and just about every VoIP feature under the sun. To me, that sounds like the perfect executive phone!

Yealink SIP-T48G

But speaking of every VoIP feature under the sun, there is one thing that you are able to do on the T48S really stood out to me. Not only is this a cool and unique feature, but I feel like it can really come in handy for someone on the executive level who may be in charge of several people in the office.

What’s the feature? The Yealink T48G allows you to upload contact photos! Not only is this relatively easy to do, but it can really come in handy when trying to remember everyone you work with!

I am going to assume that everyone you work with has a company photo, you know, headshots for your website or email signature. These are great to take and upload to your phone contacts. Especially if everyone is assigned an internal extension, it may take a while for you to remember who is calling you.

Doing this can also help you put a face to a name and a face to a voice! So the next time you’re in the breakroom getting a cup of coffee, you can really impress everyone with your flawless name remembering skills.

Now, let’s move on to the how-to part of the blog and find out how to upload contact photos! It’s really quite simple, but it does involve some work on the web user interface. If this is something you need access to or help with, then just let your System Administrator know what you are trying to do, and grab some assistance! If you are able to tackle this on your own, then just follow these easy steps!

How to Upload a Contact Photo on the Yealink T48G

  • Click on the Directory and then go to Local Directory
  • Click Browse, and then locate a photo file from your computer
  • Click Upload Photo to upload the photo
  • You can click Delete Photo to delete the customer photo

yealink-how-to-image

Once you have your photo uploaded the next step will be to add the customer photo to the contact! Please note that the Yealink T48S only supports .png, .jpg, .bmp format files and the file size must be less than 5MB!

Now that you have uploaded your photo, all you have to do is follow these next steps and you will be on your way!

  1. Click on Directory and then Local Directory
  2. Click the desired entry you want to edit
  3. Select the desired photo from the pull-down list under Photo
  4. Click Edit to accept the change

yealink-image-2-how-to

And there you have it! Now that you have assigned a photo to your contact, when you place a call to the contact or receive a call from the contact, the touchscreen will display the contact photo! Just repeat the process to keep adding photos to different contacts!

Do you have a Yealink T48G on your desk? Do you use the Contact Photo feature? If so, what’s your experience been like? We want to know!

In the past, I have written blogs about the importance of customizing your workplace. One of the best ways to do this is bringing in pictures from home, and even changing the wallpaper on your deskphone!

This process usually falls into the category of “basic” when dealing with most IP phones, and the same goes for the Yealink CP960. The only difference is this is a conference phone, and not like;y to be on your desk!

What I thought was cool is that even though this is a conference phone, and most likely to be used by several different people around the office, it is still fully customizable. Everything from the wallpaper to the ringtone to so much more!

For this blog, we will table how to change the wallpaper because that is a pretty popular thing when it comes to the customization of your phone. The CP960 will give you a list of preloaded wallpapers to choose from. If you would like to upload your own image, you will have to do that from the phone’s Web GUI, so it might be best to contact your Systems Administrator for help on that.

How to Change the Wallpaper on the Yealink CP960cp960

One thing that I will tell you is that the phone screen size is 5 inches or 720×1280. So when choosing a customer phone for this phone, make sure it will fit! In any case, if you want to keep it simple and use one of the preloaded images, then just follow these easy steps:

  1. Tap Settings from the home screen
  2. Tap Display from the Basic block
  3. Tap Wallpaper
  4. The touch screen will then display the current-used wallpaper with alternative built-in backgrounds on the bottom of the touch screen
  5. Select a desired wallpaper from the built-in wallpaper list
  6. Tap Set wallpaper

And that’s it! With something this simple, why not a little variety to your conference room? Just get ready for it to be a different background each time you use your Yealink CP960!

Do you have a Yealink CP960 in your conference room? If not, what conference phone do you use? We want to know!

Have you ever looked at your desk phone and wondered why there is a blinking red light? Or maybe a flashing green light? I feel like when it comes to weird blinky things there are two different types of people. Either you just say “Ehh, it’s always been that way” or “why is this blinking! It’s never blinked before!”

Either way, if something is grabbing your attention, then it is probably a good idea to know what it is trying to tell you. Even if it means knowing how to make it stop so the guy next to you with OCD leaves you alone.

No matter what phone you have on your desk when it comes to notifications they are all generally similar. So let’s go over what your phone migh tbe trying to tell you by taking a closer look at the Power Indicator LED patterns on the Yealink T46S.

How to Read the Power Indicator LED on the Yealink T46S

  1. If the phone’s LED indicator is solid red, that means the phone is initializing
  2. If the phone’s LED indicator is fast flashing red, that means the phone is ringing or the network is disconnected.
  3. If the phone’s LED indicator is slow flashing red, that means the phone has received a text message or voicemail
  4. If the phone’s LED indicator is off then the phone is either off, or there are no notifications or activity.

And there you have it! The next time your Yealink T46S is blinking red at you, you should know exactly what it is trying to tell you. This blog covers Power Indicator LED, however, there are many more lights that can flash at you. To learn the full list of indicators and what they mean, check out this user manual (page 5).

Do you have a Yealink T46S? If not, what phone do you use? And are the LED indicators similar? We want to know!
