The Patton SmartNode 10100 SS7 T1/E1/J1 Media Gateway connects voice traffic between the PSTN (public switched telephone network) and SIP-over-IP telephony networks, enabling SIP-to-SS7 and H.323 VoIP services. Sigtran SS7 networks are incorporating VoIP capabilities to reduce the cost of interconnecting with other carriers, create more cost-effective network footprints, or simply pass voice traffic over their IP backbones. The built-in sigtran SS7 protocol stack in the Patton SmartNode SS7 media gateways enables service providers to provide SIP-over-IP VoIP services while maintaining the compatibility and reliability of traditional TDM telephony networks that use the sigtran protocol.
