Q: How are these recovery drives used? Am I to flash a finished config to them so that they can just be popped in?

A: Restoring back to the default installation:

Follow the steps described below, related to your OS, if you find yourself wanting
to have your miniUCS restored back to a clean/default installation.
WARNING: the 'dd' command as well as 'Format…' (in Windows) can erase all data
in your PC or Laptop. Make completely sure you are pointing to the correct
device/drive, corresponding to the CF card, when using these commands

Using Linux:
1. Remove the CompactFlash (CF) memory card from inside the miniUCS and
insert it in a card reader on a Linux PC or laptop

2. Take note of the device that represents the CF:
fdisk –l | grep GB
(it would be the device which size is close to 16 GB)
For this example we will assume the CF card was assigned as /dev/sdb

3. Unmount (umount) all partitions that were automatically mounted (if
applicable), for example /dev/sdb1, /dev/sdb2, etc.

4. Download the Elastix image file:
wget https://sourceforge.net/projects/elastix/files/Elastix%20PBX%20Appliance%20Software/2.4.0/Elastix24miniUCS270613.img.bz2/download

5. Uncompress the downloaded file. For example:
bunzip2 Elastix24miniUCS270613.img

6. Write the Elastix image to the CF:
dd if=Elastix24miniUCS270613.img of=/dev/sdb

7. Once the dd execution has finished (can take as much as 2 or 3 hours),
remove the card from the reader and insert it back in the miniUCS CF slot


Using Windows:
1. Remove the CompactFlash (CF) memory card from inside the miniUCS and
insert it in a card reader on a Windows PC or laptop

2. Format the CF: open "My Computer" or "Computer" and right-click on the CF's
drive (for this example we’ll assume it was assigned as F:), then select
“Format…” from the menu. As the 'File system', select NTFS. Leave all other
options as default and click on the 'Start' button. Note: the obtained free space
should be around 16GB, if it's much less, an extension (extend) of the CF's
Disk Volume should be done (use the cmd utility 'diskpart' for this)

3. Download a dd port for the Windows OS. One can be found at:
http://www.chrysocome.net/dd
You should have obtained a "dd.exe" file inside a .zip file. Copy this .exe file
to the System32 folder (usually found at: C:\Windows\System32)

4. Download the Elastix image file by directing your web browser to:
http://elx.ec/miniucsimg

5. Uncompress the downloaded file (you may use WinRAR or any other
program that can uncompress bz2 files)

6. Write the resulting Elastix image to the CF: open the Windows Command
Prompt (cmd.exe) and execute:

dd if=[complete_path_to_the_img_file] of=\\.\[CF_drive_letter]:

for example:

dd if=c:\Users\User1\Elastix24miniUCS270613.img of=\\.\f:

7. Once the dd execution has finished (can take as much as 2 or 3 hours),
remove the card from the reader and insert it back in the miniUCS' CF slot
