Questions on Grandstream UCM6102 (Discontinued)

From Naylin Appanna at 2/11/2016 7:00 PM

Q: Hi

I am currently using FreePBX on a phone system for just 8 people in my office. I am fairly computer literate but we have had a few issues with the system and have had to get an IT person in regularly to sort this out. Is the setup and configuration for this simple enough so that anyone can set this up and run it or will I need an dedicated IT person.

A: Hi Naylin,

it is fairly simple to setup per your networking configuration.

Here is a document if you were to setup with Asterisk

Thank you,

Q: its for a hotel. When a guest checks in the line will be opened. Till then no calls can be done?

A: The UCM series PBX can use both analog or SIP trunks. You can have as as many as 2 analog trunks on a UCM 6102 which provides 2 concurrent calls to the outside. SIP trunking will allow as many concurrent calls as your provider will allow.

Great value for the $
Great little asterisk-based SOHO PBX. I'm using it to manage the phone system at my restaurant, including remote locations. The UI takes a little getting used to, but isn't too far removed from something like FreePBX or trixbox of yore. If you know asterisk, this box won't be hard to figure out. There are a few annoying gaps in the IVR, most of which you can get around by making multiple IVR's that reference each other. Support from grandstream leaves a TON to be desired -- if anything goes wrong, expect them to tell you to just flash the device with a factory image. Upgrading sometimes sucks -- some updates require replacing the bootloader, which is tricky if you're remote.

Overall a great buy for $200 price range. Works very well with GXP series phones.

Also, Trev, you can buy 4FXO/4FXS port adapters from Grandstream, and/or you can get the UCM6104 if you're looking for more FXO ports.

Lots of potential
I wish this product comes in 4fxo and 4fxs model. This has been working quite well in the last month or so and the feature, tho limited compared to a full-blown asterisk pbx, is quite adequate. I use it in my own home-based business to redirect client calls to my cell phone and present Auto-attendant to the callers.
